Heron Class

Welcome to Heron Class!

This is our class page and it is where you can find information, pictures, videos and website links about what Heron class have been doing and learning about during the week.

The most recent pictures and updates will be at the top of the page but feel free to scroll down to have a look at earlier posts in the year.

 

As part of our topic work on Space, the children have created the most amazing pictures of the planets in our solar system. They learned how to create tones and tints using pastels. Don't they look fantastic!

In Maths the children have been very busy learning how to partition (split up) two digit numbers into tens and ones and then into different combinations of tens and ones. They've picked this up brilliantly - well done Herons!

We used our time in the Outdoor Classroom to make the solar system using natural resources.

In PE the children have been learning how to use their bodies to create shapes such at the tuck, pike, straddle and straight movements. They then had a go at synchronising their movements with a partner.

The children have been busy exploring their new role-play area the 'Space Station'.

General Information


Spellings are handed out on a Friday and are tested the following Friday. The spellings are based on the work we are doing in class in Letters and Sounds and on high frequency words. If you lose your spellings, there will be spare copies on the Parent's Notice Board in the cloakroom for you to take.

 

Children, please bring in your reading book and reading diary into school every day. Try and read to an adult every day at home for 10 to 15 minutes.

 

Homework is given out on a termly basis and I ask for any completed homework to be handed in on a Friday. Homework tasks will be varied and you may choose which tasks you would like to complete. Spare copies will also be available on the Parent's Board. Parents - if you're able to spend some time helping the children on their homework, that would be fantastic.

 

Our PE lessons this year will take place on Tuesday afternoons every week and on a Thursday afternoon on a fortnightly basis. Our outdoor classroom slot will alternate with the second PE lesson on Thursdays. Please ensure your child has their full, labelled PE and Outdoor Classroom kits in school on these days.


I would be very grateful to any helpers who would like to come in on a regular basis to hear readers and as this has a huge impact on our young readers. The children will also be busy practising their number bond facts so if anyone is free for period of time, please do let me know. Later in the term, it would also be brilliant if anyone would like to help the children learn their times tables with our '77 Club'. If you would like to volunteer to do this, please pop in and speak to me or Mrs Hague at the office.

 

Children, try and remember to bring in a water bottle and please remember to name the water bottle. Drinking water helps your brain to function better!
